ACTenterprise

  • How to Add ACTenterprise with a Workgroup

Step 1: All pcs that will have ACTenterprise (Server or Clients) must have a login name and password that matches on all machines. Ideally this would be the built in administrator account. So each machine would have this account enabled and thesame password set for it across all pcs.

The reason for this is to ensure that when the ACTenterprise service is running on the Server machine, it will recognise the account and password from the client PC trying to access the service.

Step 2: Setup ACTenterprise as normal

Step 3: On the server, make sure "Use simple file sharing" is disabled. This option is normally located in

File Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View.

Step 4: After completing the above steps, it is good practice to restart the pcs and check all is functioning correctly.

  • In ACTWin how do I move a database from one PC to another?

Firstly, click here to download the newest version of ACTWin Pro.  You can install that on the new PC and it's a fairly simple installation wizard.

Basically we are looking to retrieve the database file from the old PC, which is a .JET file, copy it and put it on the new PC and open it again.

The quickest way to get the .JET file would be while the database is open and not connected, going into the old software and going into Tools>Database>Backup. This will generate a backup file which we will use and it will tell you when finished where the backup file has been saved to.

Go to where that file is stored, it will have a time stamp in the file name. Right click and copy the file and paste it to a USB flash drive or some removable media.

Put the flash drive on the new PC. Open the new ACTWin software and create a basic database with the wizard, giving it a name and saving it somewhere. It will ask the number of controller and doors etc... Just click next for all of these as we will be over writing them later anyway. Once the new database is created, the card manager will pop up, just cancel it.

So now we have our blank new database, go into Tools>Database>Restore. Point it to the backup file we have from the old machine on the USB key. Because the old PC had an older version of ACTWin Pro it may start a conversion wizard which is also straight forward enough. The moving of the database should be completed then.
